A delegation led by Islom Abdurakhmonov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC (Uzbekistan), visited the Kumsung E&C factory from 14 to 16 September 2026 as part of its official trip to Korea.
According to Uzbekhydroenergo, Uzbekistan has increased its number of hydropower plants from 36 to 106 over the past decade, bringing total hydropower capacity to 2.5 GW, and is studying international experience to expand small and micro hydropower and introduce advanced technologies. This visit was part of that effort.
At the factory, the delegation took a close look at how turbine-generator units and hydropower equipment are designed, manufactured and tested. They reviewed our technical solutions for small and micro hydro turbines that make efficient use of low-head flows, and noted that our practice of testing equipment during manufacturing to verify technical parameters and efficiency is of practical value for producing and improving hydropower equipment in Uzbekistan.
The delegation then visited the nearby Baekje Weir small hydropower plant on the Geum River to see its operation and installed equipment. Commissioned in 2011, the plant operates four units with a total capacity of 2.64 MW; Kumsung E&C supplied its turbine-generator equipment under the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project.
Since its founding in 1982, Kumsung E&C has designed and manufactured energy equipment including small and micro hydropower units, as well as gates for water supply and irrigation, steel structures, automatic gates, water and wastewater equipment, pumping station equipment, automatic trash rack cleaners and cranes.
